The practice of Ashtanga Yoga as established by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India is a dynamic system that consists of a precise sequence of poses (asana), breath control (ujjayi pranayama), a gazing point (drishti), and internal energetic locks (bandhas). Each pose in the sequence is a preparation for the next, and is traditionally practiced in sequence. The combination of breath, movement, and focused awareness begins to generate heat (tapas). This heat purifies the senses of perception, (indriyas), and consequently, we begin to be more discriminating in how we feed our senses. All levels welcome.
This class combines the active and gentle aspects of yoga asana practice. The dynamic flow of Vinyasa yoga is followed by deeper, slower stretches of beginning hatha yoga. Equal emphasis is placed on developing strength, balance, flexibility and inner stillness. No experience necessary, all levels welcome.
VINYASA FLOW/POWER VINYASA/HOT VINYASA
A vigorous and flowing practice, Vinyasa blends the major yoga asana traditions in a new expression combining the best of ancient and modern yogic wisdom. Classes vary according to instructors yogic philosophy. While all vinyasa classes promote strength, flexibility, endurance, grace, and joy, POWER classes will hold some poses longer to internalize and intensify the experience. SLOW FLOW/HATHA FLOW
Fast paced Vinyasa with an emphasis on twisting, compression/decompression to cleanse and detoxify internal organs. Move to the pace of your own breath, holding postures for increased awareness and increased intelligence through transitions. Expect to sweat.
Slow down and go deep. With an emphasis on linking the postures with the breath, this class requires the willingness to surrender to what is. Level of difficulty varies. Some intermediate postures are introduced. This class builds strength, flexibility and concentration.
Yoga sequences are based on seasonal changes as they apply to nature and the body. Internal organs and meridians are explored and worked on. Classes incorporate prop based passive and active poses to facilitate health and rejuvenation. Expect the unexpected.GENTLE HATHA
Gentle Hatha is a beginner-friendly class. Movements are slow and accessible to all levels of practitioners. The class begins and ends with a guided meditation to increase mind/body awareness and cultivate joy. BUTI YOGA
Buti Yoga is a high-intensity workout that fuses yoga and dance with circuits of plyometrics and conditioning. Classes consist of deep stretching, BUTI shaking and heart-pounding cardio. BUTI dance moves are taken from various styles that focus on an intense shaking of the hips (and BUTI) including Miami Booty Dance, Brazilian Baile Funk, Hip Hop, Crunk and African Tribal.
